Gift Aid: Information and Membership

ARCHDIOCESE OF BIRMINGHAM PARISH OF

ST CHAD AND ALL SAINTS - AND

ST PETER AND THE ENGLISH MARTYRS

GIFT AID DONATIONS

INTRODUCTION
The finances at both St Chad’s and St Peter’s need a boost to ensure that we are covering the rising costs of energy, repairs and maintenance etc.

As parishioners already give generously, one way of increasing parish income without asking you to give more is by asking more eligible parishioners to Gift Aid their donations.

If you are a UK taxpayer and give a donation to the offertory basket or bag, please consider signing a Gift Aid Declaration so that the church can claim an extra 25% of your donation from His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC). The small amount of extra income from each person’s Gift Aid can help the parishes enormously. For example, if you already give £5 each week, that will mean an extra £65 over the course of a year. If 10 more donors in each parish were able to Gift Aid their £5 donations, that would be an extra £650 for each, which would cover much of the winter heating bills in each church.

Full information about the Gift Aid scheme is given below, including details about how to join the scheme. If you have any further queries that are not addressed, then please contact the person shown below in the box with the telphones.

GIFT AID INFORMATION FOR MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION
Gift Aid is a simple way for tax-payers to get HMRC to add 25p to every £1 that you donate to the Church. Please see examples in the table below how ‘gift aiding’ your donations increases the overall income for parishes. E.g., if you give £5 each week to the first collection – being able to claim
Gift Aid on this means that you are in effect donating £6.25 – an extra £65.00 per year!

  • For the Parish to be able to claim Gift Aid back on money that you donate, there are three conditions:
  1. you must be a UK tax-payer on income, savings or capital gains
  2. you will need to sign a Gift Aid Declaration (see below for details)
  3. you should make your donations in a numbered envelope allocated to you (alternatively you can complete a Standing Order
to your bank instructing them to transfer a monthly donation to the Parish).
  • If using envelopes, you do not have to commit to donate a fixed amount each week. The amount you donate can vary each week and
weeks can be missed. It is your overall donation in each tax year on which the Gift Aid is claimed.
  • Please note that any Gift Aid donations that you make in a tax year should not exceed the amount of tax you pay in that year.
  • Joining the scheme will not affect your tax payments. You do not have to provide details of employment, income, tax or even your
NI number - all that is required is your full name and address.
  • Once you have made a signed Gift Aid declaration for the Parish, it continues to be valid until you cease to be a tax-payer - at
whichpoint please notify us. Please also notify us of any change of personal details such as your address.

What to do next:
If you are a tax-payer and would like your Parish to benefit more from your generosity, then please complete a Gift Aid Declaration form available from
the church wardens at St Chad’s or from Helen Jones at St Peter’s - or print your own from the next section below.

Please return your completed forms to them as soon as conveniently possible.

These will then be processed by Paul Abbiss for St Chad’s or Nick Ford for St Peter’s.

If you have opted for weekly envelopes, a box of numbered envelopes will be given to you.

Thank you for your continued support of the Gornal and Sedgley RC parishes.
